Dissertation Help!

Calling all fashion students/bloggers/magazine publications!

I need your help! I am a third year student journalist at Glamorgan University in Cardiff, South Wales and I’m currently carrying out research for my dissertation. I would really appreciate it if you could complete the questionnaire attached and return it to me, Angela Hui, via email at 09033459@glam.ac.uk
If you would be able to pass this message onto any other fashion students/fashion bloggers/fashion magazine publications I would be very grateful. In a society shifting from traditional forms of media such as newspapers and magazine to web-based media; the purpose of the survey is to find out how has traditional fashion journalism has responded to the rise of fashion bloggers. Thus, your response is vital to my research, with my dissertation being specifically about fashion bloggers and fashion journalism.

Your emails will not be used or forwarded on and all answers will be treated with confidentiality: only being used for data analysis within my study.  Please read question instructions carefully and I hope to hear back from you very soon. Feel free to comment further on any of the questions raised. Thank-you for taking the time to read this, the questionnaire shouldn’t take any longer than five minutes. Also this is NOT an April Fool's joke. So please help me! Haha.

London Fashion Week Report Day 1

I've been a little late jumping on London Fashion Week bandwagon, but I'll try and catch up I promise! Although, I'm pretty sure the majority of us who aren't lucky or prestigious enough to attend, has been streaming live to watch the A/W '12 collections anyways (like yours truly). So here's a lowdown of my favourite collections, so far.

Bora Aksu Autumn/Winter 2012-13
February 17th 2012

London Fashion Week A/W 2012-13 has definitely started off with a bang. The first collection to really catch my eye was Turkish born Bora Aksu's beautifully printed and sculpted collection. There was plenty of his signature staple cocktail dresses with double-sided woven coverlets to be seen, babydoll shapes, structured fitted pencil skirts and caped coats. The beginning of the collection has a more monochrome look with an introduction of  grey, white,  peach and cream colours, then slowly transitioning into a more colourful palette of red, fuchsia pink, yellow and orange hues. The beautiful lace and floral prints on each garment (even on the tights!) were my personal favourites; with a very romantic and edwardian look, which Bora previous stated that he drew inspiration from and you can definitely see the reflection in this collection.

Felder Felder Autumn/Winter 2012-13
February 17th 2012

The German born Felder sisters' signature grunge-meets-glam with a rock 'n' roll twist vibe are definitely visible throughout the whole collection. With a wearable and a distinctly bright collection of swirling cosmos prints that comes in almost every different type of garment from mini skirts, leggings to catsuits. There was chunky knit jumpers paired with reflective leather to fur trimmed coats and silky body suits, the Felder duo offered an eclectic mix of prints and patterns teamed with simplistic touches. Dresses and skirts favoured the midi length, and a few metallic skater dresses and skirts were thrown in the mix too. Staying true to the earthy Autumn/Winter colours. Their palette is full of different shades of browns, creams, burnt oranges, with a few yellow and gold numbers, ending with an all-black finish and a killer evening gown. The collection was an upbeat tribute to colour and texture play. Those covetable chunky metallic plated heels with a cheeky peep-toe are to die for. (Must hunt a similar pair down!)

PPQ Autumn/Winter 2012-13
February 17th 2012

My first thoughts of Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker's collection was that "Has circus has come to town?" with exaggerated ruffled hems and draped sleeves, paired with barely there hotpants. Some models were even accessorised with a Rule Supreme Style Bike – it was unusual and definitely stood out for me. The first PPQ model wore black tights under a white leotard with black pvc lower half and a leopard print overlay. (Hardly cycling attire!) However, as the collection progressed there was a distinctive movie-star glamour feel for the entire collection, diminishing my thoughts for a circus themed collection. There were full skirts flowing to mid-calf, and cinched-in waists on jackets. Thick heavy coats finished off with a drape of tartan mohair wrap, fur collars and hair with flowing curls. It looked like the models walked straight out of the Hollywood studios. When the collection shifted from Hollywood glam to the chiffon heavy evening wear look, that's where the magic happened for me. The beautiful ombre gowns were simply devine without being too over-the-top and dramatic, the dip-dye between the black and white made the illusion of a never-ending dress. The draping of the material was just stunning, whether the chiffon was or around the neck in a voluptuous halter neck, it just seemed to be gliding through the air. The colours were strictly monochrome with small injections of grey, emerald green and gold. With some small gold studs and glitter sparkles accents on tights and shoes really added to that 1950's Hollywood glamour vibe.

Drop Armhole Tee Tutorial

What you'll need: Any old T-shirt (in this case Kanye West), but make sure you get a size bigger for that baggier effect
and a pair of sharp scissors.

Step 1. Lay your chosen T-shirt onto a flat surface and smoothen out any creases. (No need for ironing.)
Step 2. Carefully cut the sleeves off following the lining of the sleeve, make sure you're cutting both the front and back at the same time, also cut off the hems off for a clean and raw edge.
Step 3.  Rinse and repeat for the other arm/sleeve.
Et Voila! You're done.
Tip: If you want a deeper drop armhole just hack it away with the scissors some more until you're happy.

It's a pretty simple tutorial, and I've been doing this to all my T-shirts for years, but I thought I'd share.
As I've seen so many drop armhole tee's and it just annoys me when someone buys them for a ridiculous price, when you can easily make your own version, for a fraction of the price.

New Look Striped Jumper // Tescos Denim Shirt // Topshop Woollen Tights // Primark Brogues // Robot Necklace Gift // Primark Bag // H&M Foxtail

Firstly, major apologies for the multiple-bad quality photos, phone photos will have to suffice for the time-being seeing as I can't afford a swanky new camera. (That's a lie I just bought myself some Lita Spikes (!!!!!!) Ahem. Sorry I couldn't contain my excitement, but I will obviously be sleeping in them. Secondly sorry for being in a changing room (haha) I just don't have a proper full-length mirror. Anyways, enjoy.

Road Trips

Hi folks, I've been a little busy bee! Been whizzing round the UK on road trips, art exhibitions, more 21st birthdays, university deadlines, applications and breaking my camera. CRY. Meaning that I won't be able to take better quality photos, so I'm afraid mobile photos will have suffice for the time-being. (Sorry!) But it's not all doom and gloom, I do have some good news. I'm recently involved in a new journalism project, which I'm highly excited about! I shall be writing for a new gaming website, so if any of you lot like g33king out as much as me, check it out here! Also here's a compilation of photos from the past week.

Karl Kult

Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director for Chanel (duh) has gone all out to celebrate his new affordable ready-to-wear line at Net-a-porter. He's created a whole Karl Lagerfeld phenomenon complete with faux news adverts with the headline: 'Where's Karl? Fashion hunt is on for missing collection.' The Karl online kingdom invites fans to sign up to 'Karl's Kult' to receive updates on the whereabouts of the 'missing' line, and the chance to enter exclusive competitions in the build up to its release on January 25th. If that's not enough Lagerfeld for you then there's even a mobile phone app, funnily enough also called Karl. Where you get the chance to win yourself £1000 to shop at net-a-porter and you get to 'karlify' yourself featuring his iconic high collar and aviators look. The real Lagerfeld's favourite cyber-Karl will win the jumbo cash prize. So ladies and gentlemen get karlifying!

P.S. I think I've said Karl a bit too many times now.
